Dec 27 2011 12-27-2011 - Thanks to everyone for a very busy season this year. We are glad you were able to enjoy the show this year. I will be adding high quality edited videos to my videos page and You Tube / Vimeo channels as soon as I can get each video completed. Keep checking back to see them (you can also see the links to them on our Facebook page).
Dec 22 2011 - Traffic was really heavy out there last night and I was out there from about 6:30 until 10:00 PM trying to direct traffic around the display. Channel 13 was out the night before last and it appeared on the 11:00 news that night as well as the morning news yesterday. I was also on Korn Country 100.3 FM yesterday morning talking to Dave "The King" Wilson about the display. Based on all this and all the extra traffic this year, I am thinking that the last night for the display might be on Christmas Day so if you are planning on coming to see the display in person please dont wait until the last minute. Once the display is turned off for the year I will start taking everything down and storing it and it will only take me a few hours to do so.
Dec 18 2011 - For those that were run off by the police, there was no call for that. I want you to come back and enjoy the show. I will park people in my own yard so you can watch it. I am talking to the town manager and the town marshall about it. It goes back to a neighbor that moved in a few years ago and thinks he can tell everyone what to do. News flash, not going to happen. Everyone that likes it show your support and contact the Town of Whiteland and the Police Department's Marshall Gary Neeman at (317) 535-8100 and show your support for the display.
Dec 10 2011 - Had a ton of traffic tonight. Cars were lined up down the streets waiting to see the display. Also created a large QR code that I hung on the garage to test. The QR code was there for people to scan with their smart phones and be taken directly to the website from which they could click on the videos to see the display. Seemed to work pretty well, but noticed that it depends on the phone. My iPhone was able to get an image just at the edge of my sidewalk, while I saw others had to walk up the drive before they could scan it.
Dec 8 2011 - I added a remix of LMFAO Party Rock Anthem to the display and took a video using a better camera. I also discovered after the fact that the high definition version of the video would not work on mobile devices so I had to create a smaller version of the video so people could see it on their mobile devices.
Dec 4 2011 - Added a couple of more songs to the display and took a coupld of videos from phone in car down the street. Nows there a total of five songs in the display.
Dec 1 2011 - Another video of second song. Still taken with phone in car.
Nov 30 2011 - I took a real quick video last night of one of the songs. Quality is not that good as I was inside my car and I took it from my phone while it was raining out. You also cant see the other effects that are going on in the display too well but at least its a start and you can get an idea about the big tree.
Nov 29 2011 - I will have to say that we have had way too much rain the last couple of weeks of November. I took a week off from work to do nothing but work on the display and try and get it running again after Thanksgiving. The rain kept me from getting everything built, wired up and tested for the day after Thanksgiving but I eventually got the bugs worked out with the new stuff and was able to finish two songs for the show and put them up there this weekend. I will keep working on songs and adding more as the week progresses so be patient.
Nov 11 2011 - The display is coming back online in 2011 and will prove to be very interesting... The big addition for this year is a 17 foot tall tree that has 1,800 full color LEDs in it! Trust me, you wont want to miss this tree. The height, brightness of the LEDs, and the positioning will allow you to see the tree and the animations from US 31 if you are heading north from Franklin. For those that may not be aware, I started animating and synchronizing my Christmas display to music in 2003. Back then I made a decision that I wanted to change the display and music each year to keep it interesting. It takes a lot of planning and work throughout the year in order to design the display and program evey beat of the show and tell the computer what should happen at each beat. In the summer of 2004, I had almost everything stolen from a storage unit but I still had a show that year, even though it was a lot smaller. Each year I would start over, finding new music, designing a new display (some out of necessity after learning what can stand the test of strong winds and cold temperatures in December). Finally in 2009, we had several incidents of vandalism to the display and decided that it may be time to stop or at least take a break. So, 2010 came and there was no display out there. I received many emails from people asking about the display and learned that it had become a tradition for many families and was missed by many people. At the beginning of 2011, I decided that I would try again and see how it went so I started planning a "comeback" that would be over the top of anything around here...
